Few remarks, spelling attention :

See the apostrophe ' and means a vowel was deleted. Here the pronoun je loose its e.

This verb is irregular in صرف this is why we have to learn it and memorize it. See the accent circonflexe on the e : ^. This sign is pronounced è opened and its a trace of an anciant s position (es became ê).

Meanings :

In arabic we use مبتدأ و خبر to express a state of beeing, without any verb. In french we need a verb between مبتدأ و خبر :


So with être we describe something or someone.

In arabic, we don't need a verb to express a possession, but in french, we have le verbe avoir :


The sign of the regular plural, the final -s :

When we want to aplly the plural over a noun or an adjective, we add a final -s : La fille est grande. Les filles sont grandes.

Pluriel masculin > add a final -s

Pluriel féminin > add -e (gender mark) + a final -s

Yes ! One another irregularity with this adjective : vieil (masc. sing.) when it comes front a vowel : le vieil arbre = l'arbre vieux ; le vieil homme = l'homme vieux.
