This is a real problem of tafsir :

If it's a تمييز so it qualify the kind of non-belief ; if it's a مفعول لأجله it's a consequence of their non-belief ; if it's a حال it's their statement while they don't believe.

I think it's a مفعول لأجله :

the cause of their angry it's the ayat given to the choosen of Allah. So Angry is the consequence of that fact. والله أعلم

Yes the word بغيا here give the reason of the action or why do they acting like this, not describing them while the action occurring or they are doing the action like the حال.

We are full in semantic analyse. We need to refined the translation french-arabic for the names of these complements:

بَغْيًا أَن يُنَزِّلَ اللَّهُ مِن فَضْلِهِ عَلَىٰ مَن يَشَاءُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ

Reason is vague. Rather, we have 2 concepts :

- The cause مفعول له
- The consequence مفعول لأجله

The first is about the source, and the second about the end. 2 opposite directions. In our verse,  أَن يُنَزِّلَ اللَّهُ مِن فَضْلِهِ عَلَىٰ مَن يَشَاءُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ comes for what is the cause of the بَغْيًا statement, so بَغْيًا  is a consequence, not a cause.

The word أجل express the concept of what comes forward, and it fit with both Goal (but) and Consequence.

Goal have another meaning apart Goal, the intent too. It don't fit with our study here.

The word أجل express the concept of what comes forward, and it fit with both Goal (but) and Consequence.


أجل express the direction taken by a matter, this way Goal (un but) or consequence fit very well, but there is another clause concept : result (which comes at the end of a matter).

This view fit with the 2 verses we saw for now : 2.19 and 2.90.
