Now yes, all verbs may be gérondif by their meaning.
In the first exercse, I let you use the verb porter un chapeau as gérondif, even if it have no really sens. It was a training first.

The sentences :

- L'homme se cachant derrière la voiture regarde quelque chose en tenant un chien dans ses bras.
- L'homme regardant quelque chose tient un chien dans ses bras en se cachant derrière la voiture.
- L'homme tenant un chien dans ses bras se cache derrière la voiture en regardant quelque chose.

We can wonder why all these sentences. They mean all the same thing, in appearence. The 3 actions are there : regarder, se cacher and tenir.

The difference is about بَلَاغَة. We make distinction between a main action, then an action which accompagn another action (gérondif), and the less important, the description (part. présent).

I think he is : attendu and (peut).

These are not feeling.

Attendu is the past participe of attendre (to wait).

Il peut from le verbe transitif direct pouvoir (be able). But I think you want to bring the مصدر la peur. And its adjective (formed by a past participe) apeuré(e)(s).

Vois aussi cet adjectif : inquiet (masc.) ; inquiète (fém.).

I didn't see before this message. Do you understand the french sentence ? Or just, you understand them, but can't translate/compare them with arabic ?


With my young skill in arabic, I try to translate :

L'homme se cachant derrière la voiture regarde quelque chose en tenant un chien dans ses bras.


Le participe présent : se cachant = الَّذِي يَسْتَخْفِي

Le gérondif وَهُوَ يَحْمِلُ et c'est le حال.

The main action : يَبصَرُ

L'homme se cachant derrière la voiture regarde quelque chose en tenant un chien dans ses bras.

Right ? I understand the sentences but I can't compare them with arabic.

Comparison :

The gérondif is still the same : وهو يحمل كلباً في ذراعيه

Then, what's about le participe présent ? You choose to insert a word denoting a description, a نَعْت which is المختبئ.

As I said you, le participe présent se cachant derive from the verb se cacher, like المختبئ which derive from اِخْتَبَأَ. In the same way, we can write :


Se cacher means "to hide oneself", and اِخْتَبَأَ is from VIII of خبأ. The form VIII express a kind of reflexive verb as se cacher. So the pronom réflexif se is the letter ت of the arabic form VIII.

Here you learn another important syntaxe in french :

الزَّجُلُ الَّذِي يَخْتَبِئُ خََلْفَ سَيَّارَةٍ

الَّذِي يَخْتَبِئُ : it may be tranlated by celui qui se cache or simply qui se cache.

Celui and qui are pronouns, like الَّذِي.

We have two ways to say, with exactly the same meaning :

> L'homme se cachant...
> L'homme qui se cache...

se cachant = participe présent
qui se cache = verbal phrase, subordinate, with اسم موصول qui. This phrase (une proposition in french) is a موصوليّة.

المختبئ is a noun, but in french we don't have accurate translation, then remains the participe présent (which is not a noun in french) : se cachant.


Comparaison morphologique et sémantique :

مُختبَأ = passive form with فتحة = caché (participe passé)
مختبئ = active form with  كسرة = se cachant (participe présent).
