משמעות השמות יְשַׁעְיָהוּ ישוע, יהושע, ואֱלִישָׁע Meaning of Joshua, Ishaeah, Yashua (Jesus), Elisha
These 4 names have the same root and etyma: שע or سع in arabic graphems. See also here.
This etyma in Arabic and hebrew
سَوْعٌ or שוע and سَاعَةٌ or שעה, both related to Time, the time that passes, the first is general, the second it's particular, a hour.
[7.187]
They ask you about the Hour: when is its arrival? Say, "Its knowledge is only with my Lord. None will reveal its time except Him. It lays heavily upon the heavens and the earth. It will not come upon you except unexpectedly." They ask you as if you are familiar with it. Say, "Its knowledge is only with Allah , but most of the people do not know."
Here we have the meaning of a particular time, moment, that prophesied by the messengers of Allah, سَاعَةٌ or שעה.
This etyma in hebrew
שָׁע, all people born this last century know this word, the Shoah, a time of destruction for the Torah's followers living among the Christians, the region of northern Europe.
In this form, it evokes danger, a terrible moment, an abominable hour, but it can mean a pleasant moment:
[4.4 בְּרֵאשִׁית]
וְהֶבֶל הֵבִיא גַם הוּא מִבְּכֹרוֹת צֹאנוֹ וּמֵחֶלְבֵהֶן וַיִּשַׁע יְהוָה אֶל הֶבֶל וְאֶל מִנְחָתוֹ
and Abel, for his part, made her one of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat. Allah looked favorably on Abel and on his offering,
Its form redoubled:
[8.31 מִשְׁלֵי]
מְשַׂחֶקֶת בְּתֵבֵל אַרְצוֹ וְשַׁעֲשֻׁעַי אֶת בְּנֵי אָדָם
Then I was by Him, as a nursling, and I was daily all delight, playing always before Him,
Morphosemantic
The semantic field is the moment and its importance.
Each Semitic letter carries a meaning, a semantic unit: the ש س indicates an ongoing, a flow (see here), a movement, like time that passes, a support like the flow that transports, and the ע ع indicates cognition, that which is perceived by the eyes or ears, like in עוֹלָם عالم all our mind can grap.
In the morphosyntaxis, the ע ع comes at the end of this etyma, means it is the reception, for the observation. By syntactic opposition of עשות which indicates the observation comes first, translated by to act, to do.
Now the meaning of Josua יְהוֹשֻׁעַ يَوسُع, who was he ?
[11.28 בְּמִדְבַּר]
וַיַּעַן יְהוֹשֻׁעַ בִּן נוּן מְשָׁרֵת מֹשֶׁה מִבְּחֻרָיו
And Joshua the son of Nun, the minister of Moses from his youth up
[27.18 בְּמִדְבַּר]
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֶל מֹשֶׁה קַח לְךָ אֶת יְהוֹשֻׁעַ בִּן נוּן אִישׁ אֲשֶׁר רוּחַ בּוֹ וְסָמַכְתָּ אֶת יָדְךָ עָלָיו
And Allah said unto Moses : "Take thee Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is spirit, and lay thy hand upon him".
[34.9 בְּמִדְבַּר]
וִיהוֹשֻׁעַ בִּן נוּן מָלֵא רוּחַ חָכְמָה כִּי סָמַךְ מֹשֶׁה אֶת יָדָיו עָלָיו וַיִּשְׁמְעוּ אֵלָיו בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וַיַּעֲשׂוּ כַּאֲשֶׁר צִוָּה יְהוָה אֶת מֹשֶׁה
And Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom, for Moses had laid his hands upon him; and the children of Israel hearkened unto him, and did as Allah commanded Moses.
This name was modified by Ezra and his scribes when writing the Torah upon return from captivity in Persia.
The proof is simple: the Y prefixed alone indicates the Hand that Allah had over the mission of Joshua, the mission being the root of the word, and for יְהוֹשֻׁעַ, the morphem prefixed יה is for the tetragram יהוה the one who appeared in Ezra's times, and bring nothing more semanticaly in Josua's name, the י being sufficient, means : "for Moses had laid his hands upon him", this י beeing the Hand of God (through Moses here) when it starts a hebrew name.
The christians said this word it's about salvation, it's not exactly the case. What did Josua ?
[14.30 בְּמִדְבַּר]
אִם אַתֶּם תָּבֹאוּ אֶל הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר נָשָׂאתִי אֶת יָדִי לְשַׁכֵּן אֶתְכֶם בָּהּ כִּי אִם כָּלֵב בֶּן יְפֻנֶּה וִיהוֹשֻׁעַ בִּן נוּן
surely ye shall not come into the land, concerning which I lifted up My hand that I would make you dwell therein, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.
[3.28 בְּמִדְבַּר]
וְצַו אֶת יְהוֹשֻׁעַ וְחַזְּקֵהוּ וְאַמְּצֵהוּ כִּי הוּא יַעֲבֹר לִפְנֵי הָעָם הַזֶּה וְהוּא יַנְחִיל אוֹתָם אֶת הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר תִּרְאֶה
But charge Joshua, and encourage him, and strengthen him, for he shall go over before this people, and he shall cause them to inherit the land which thou shalt see.'
We see here the promise given by Allah to Josua, and he will be witness of its realization, so the ע ع at the end of יְהוֹשֻׁעַ يَوسُع, something expected to come and to be seen.
[2.24 יְהוֹשֻׁעַ]
וַיֹּאמְרוּ אֶל יְהוֹשֻׁעַ כִּי נָתַן יְהוָה בְּיָדֵנוּ אֶת כָּל הָאָרֶץ וְגַם נָמֹגוּ כָּל יֹשְׁבֵי הָאָרֶץ מִפָּנֵינוּ
And they said unto Joshua: "Truly Allah hath delivered into our hands all the land, and moreover all the inhabitants of the land do melt away before us".
Conclusion
We have the meaning for Josua, Isaeah, Jesus, Elisha, and following, we'll see the morphological changes and semantical nuances of the 3 others names إن شاء الله

Meaning of Ishaiah המשמעות ישעיהו
منصور a écrit:
This etyma in Arabic and hebrew
سَوْعٌ or שוע and سَاعَةٌ or שעה, both related to Time, the time that passes, the first is general, the second it's particular, a hour.
Let's see what means יְשַׁעְיָהוּ إِسْعَائِه. His father אָמוֹץ was a righteous man who called his people to good deeds, to follow the commandments, the Torah.
We will first focus on the beginning of the Ishaeah's book :
[1.1 יְשַׁעְיָהוּ]
חֲזוֹן יְשַׁעְיָהוּ בֶן אָמוֹץ אֲשֶׁר חָזָה עַל יְהוּדָה וִירוּשָׁלִָם בִּימֵי עֻזִּיָּהוּ יוֹתָם אָחָז יְחִזְקִיָּהוּ מַלְכֵי יְהוּדָה
The vision of Isaiah the son of Amotz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem, in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.
Morphosemantic
The first word of this verse is yet an explanation of the name Ishaeah : vision, from root חזו (to predict) and the arabic spelling حذو gives more details in meaning, the hebrew mixes the Z and Dh in the letter ז. So according to its arabic spelling, it's about extracting something from somewhere.
The morphem N suffixed חֲזוֹן is emphatic, meaning the Vision of the visions. It gives here importance and majesty.
The root שעו سعو which is about provision, the act of anticipating for the moments to come. Thus, it's not about salvation as claimed by rabbies or christians, but much more precise.
We have a suffixed pronoun him יְשַׁעְיָהוּ إِسعائِه and the إِ יְ prefixed indicates that is about an infinitive, a set of actions (provision, anticipation).
The י ي comes from the שעו سعو, but in its active mood.
Then we have the full meaning : a set of anticipating actions - of Him, for the Time to come, aswell Ishaeah himself, or Allah for the pronoun him.

משמעות יֵשׁוּעַ Meaning of Jesus's name
This etyma in Arabic and hebrew
سَوْعٌ or שוע and سَاعَةٌ or שעה, both related to Time, the time that passes, the first is general, the second it's particular, a hour.
Let's see what means ܝܫܘܥ يَسُوع יֵשׁוּעַ Yasua' (or Yashua' in modern hebrew). This is closed to the name of Joshua, except the vowel in the first letter.
Syriac peshitta , closest to aramaic language, language in Jesus's time:
[2.1 Matthew]
ܟܕ ܕܝܢ ܐܬܝܠܕ ܝܫܘܥ ܒܒܝܬ ܠܚܡ ܕܝܗܘܕܐ ܒܝܘܡܝ ܗܪܘܕܤ ܡܠܟܐ ܐܬܘ ܡܓܘܫܐ ܡܢ ܡܕܢܚܐ ܠܐܘܪܫܠܡ
After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem.
Morphosemantic
The study about Joshua will be here on the o as infix in יְהוֹשֻׁעַ : it expresses a passive move, means the mission above Joshua', to take the land of the canaanean, it was a duty on him.
In case of Jesus's name, The a on the 1st letter indicates an action taken by an agent. Jesus was the prophet delivering warning about the Judgment day, يُوم القِيامَة, no one prophet before him talked so much of this terrible day.
So Jesus's mission was to warn us about the Hour, to anticipate it and make provision acting for our salvation for the purpose of this Time to come, terrible one.
12.36 Matthew
ܐܡܪ ܐܢܐ ܠܟܘܢ ܓܝܪ ܕܟܠ ܡܠܐ ܒܛܠܐ ܕܢܐܡܪܘܢ ܒܢܝ ܐܢܫܐ ܢܬܠܘܢ ܦܬܓܡܗ ܒܝܘܡܐ ܕܕܝܢܐ
But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken.

Meaning of the name Elisha' המשמעות אלישע
This etyma in Arabic and hebrew
سَوْعٌ or שוע and سَاعَةٌ or שעה, both related to Time, the time that passes, the first is general, the second it's particular, a hour.
Let's see what means أَليَسَعَ אֱלִישָׁע Elisha'.
[6.86]
وَإِسْمَٰعِيلَ وَٱلْيَسَعَ وَيُونُسَ وَلُوطًۭا ۚ وَكُلًّۭا فَضَّلْنَا عَلَى ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ
And Ismael and Elisa' and Jonah and Lot, all of them, We preferred over the A'alamin*.
Morphosemantic
*A'alamin, unfortunately still translated by the worlds or the universe, while this word in the plural deals with what is significant, it is therefore of favored their reputation among all that can be known, signified. This term essentially means the Signifiers, which can be designated (see surah 2.31).
We are all now be able to identify the root and etyma أَليَسَعَ אֱלִישָׁע, suffixed the י ي with Hand of Allah meaning, His Will.
And then let's see the meaning of morphem : אל أل, which means, according to jews and christians, the first 2 letters of Allah or Eloh.
It comes also suffixed to names like יִשְׂרָאֵל إِسْرَائِيلَ, turning to YL in arabic.
When suffixed, AL is about serving, for Allah's purpose. The angels are all servants of Allah, so the suffixed Gabriel, Emmanuel, Mikhael, Samuel, Israel, etc.
These two letters have a meaning, the first expresses a Causality, and the second a production toward a goal. This way, the name Elisha' starts saying caused of production toward then the Will of Allah, then the action of the root anticipation, prediction, provision.
Elisha' could predict the event to come. This prediction is clearly expresses in this following verse :
2 King 8.12
And Hazael said: 'Why weepeth my lord?' And he (Elisha') answered: 'Because I know the evil that thou wilt do unto the children of Israel, their strongholds wilt thou set on fire, and their young men wilt thou slay with the sword, and wilt dash in pieces their little ones, and rip up their women with child.'
Here again, the morphem AL appear but suffixed חֲזָאֵל, so why ?
Allah had delivered the vision to Elisha', and Hazael is carrying this attribut by its root : חֲזָ from חזו to predict, carrying a prediction. Hazael is thus a tool for Allah's purpose.

Meaning of Elishaa' משמעות אֱלִישָׁע
منصور a écrit:
This etyma in Arabic and hebrew
سَوْعٌ or שוע and سَاعَةٌ or שעה, both related to Time, the time that passes, the first is general, the second it's particular, a hour.
More about the morphology of אֱלִישָׁע أَليَسَعَ. His father שָׁפָט (Shafat or سَفَط) was a moderate man who reconciled his community in the event of conflict, and who was consulted for this reason.
[19. 15 et 16 מְלָכִים א]
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֵלָיו לֵךְ שׁוּב לְדַרְכְּךָ מִדְבַּרָה דַמָּשֶׂק וּבָאתָ וּמָשַׁחְתָּ אֶת חֲזָאֵל לְמֶלֶךְ עַל אֲרָם
And Allah says to him (Elihu), “Go, return on your way to the wilderness of Damascus, and you have gone in, and anointed Hazael for king over Aram,
וְאֵת יֵהוּא בֶן נִמְשִׁי תִּמְשַׁח לְמֶלֶךְ עַל יִשְׂרָאֵל וְאֶת אֱלִישָׁע בֶּן שָׁפָט מֵאָבֵל מְחוֹלָה תִּמְשַׁח לְנָבִיא תַּחְתֶּיךָ
Also, anoint Jehu son of Nimshi king over Israel, and anoint Elishaa' son of Shaphat from Abel Meholah to succeed you as prophet.
In this verse, we see that 3 persons were Messies, means anointed משח, they received upon their head an oil. So Elishaa' was a masiah, a messie.
And here the first clue about the morphology of his name : succeed you as prophet, תַּחְתֶּיךָ, after you, following you.
Second clue :
[2.9, 10 et 11 מְלָכִים ב]
וַיְהִי כְעָבְרָם וְאֵלִיָּהוּ אָמַר אֶל אֱלִישָׁע שְׁאַל מָה אֶעֱשֶׂה לָּךְ בְּטֶרֶם אֶלָּקַח מֵעִמָּךְ וַיֹּאמֶר אֱלִישָׁע וִיהִי נָא פִּי שְׁנַיִם בְּרוּחֲךָ אֵלָי
When they had crossed, Eliahu said to Elisha, “Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken from you?” “Let me inherit a double portion of your spirit,” Elisha replied.
וַיֹּאמֶר הִקְשִׁיתָ לִשְׁאוֹל אִם תִּרְאֶה אֹתִי לֻקָּח מֵאִתָּךְ יְהִי לְךָ כֵן וְאִם אַיִן לֹא יִהְיֶה
“You have asked a difficult thing,” Eliahu said, “yet if you see me when I am taken from you, it will be yours—otherwise, it will not.”
וַיְהִי הֵמָּה הֹלְכִים הָלוֹךְ וְדַבֵּר וְהִנֵּה רֶכֶב אֵשׁ וְסוּסֵי אֵשׁ וַיַּפְרִדוּ בֵּין שְׁנֵיהֶם וַיַּעַל אֵלִיָּהוּ בַּסְעָרָה הַשָּׁמָיִם
As they were walking along and talking together, suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Eliahu went up to heaven in a whirlwind.
Morphosemantic
See the two names and morphology :
אֵלִיָּהוּ
The name of Elishaa' is compound of 2 parts, and the first one is about אֵלִיָּהוּ, so Elishaa' brings something more to Eliahu, the etyma שָׁע, as we saw in this thread, it's about times to come. And for sure, Elishaa' came after Elihu, and Elishaa' recieved from Eliahu.
In this thread here, the explanation of the prefix EL (in french), related to Allah's name ; it's about the Cause producing something, a power upon something. And אֵלִיָּהוּ could be translated by On me, (to) him.
First clue נָא פִּי שְׁנַיִם בְּרוּחֲךָ אֵלָי :
- נָא : means an acces to a futur ;
- פִּי שְׁנַיִם within fews years, it shows the duration of this futur ;
- בְּרוּחֲךָ the tool beeing used in this futur, the Spirit of Eliahu ;
- אֵלָי the location of the Spirit for the futur and duration, upon Elishaa'.
The following verse gives us the condition for the acceptance of Elishaa' 's request for second clue תִּרְאֶה אֹתִי לֻקָּח מֵאִתָּךְ :
- תִּרְאֶה you (Elishaa') see ;
- אֹתִי see this, me (Eliahu) ;
- לֻקָּח participle attribut of Eliahu, this word expresses something hanging to another ;
- מֵאִתָּךְ this clause is compounded of 3 parts, from, this, and pronoun you.
And last verse, last clue וַיַּפְרִדוּ בֵּין שְׁנֵיהֶם :
- יַּפְרִדוּ rather than separate, this verb expresses individuation ;
- בֵּין between ;
- שְׁנֵיהֶם compound in two part, שְׁנֵי shows as see above an extension of time, and הֶם pronoun, them.
