وعليكم السلام ورحمة الله وبركاته
Bien !
You understand a sentence through groups (syntaxe and بيان).
We saw the nominal group as Subject (فاعل) and now, we enter in verbal group. Most of the time, the verb come after the Subect (except in question), but sometime, the french put emphasis on the verb and place it front the subject : Vint le temps de la moisson. It's poetic license.
We study for now the intransitive verb : no need Complément d'Objet -CO- (مفعول به).
But here, we need to focus on the reflexive verbs. The reflexive pronoun se in s'arrêter is a kind of CO for the verb.
Tomber is a statement, so we use the auxiliary for statement : être.
Au présent :
Votre passionnant livre vert dans la bibliothèque tombe.
Vos passionnants livres verts dans la bibliothèque tombent.
Au passé composé:
Votre passionnant livre vert dans la bibliothèque a tombé.
Vos passionnants livres verts dans la bibliothèque sont (ont) tombé.
Here an interesting comparison with arabic : think to the verb of bab i-a. The كسرة in ع radicale express that the action occured on the فاعل of the verb, while the فتحة in ع radical in the مضارع express only the event, as we see in french with the verb tomber. So the كسرة in arabic it's the french auxiliary être in french.
Il est tombé / Il tombe = bab i-a in arabic verb.
Tombé work as a description for the doer, le Sujet.
Here our first reflexive verbe : s'arrêter (which is se and arrêter).
Au présent :
Leur grand bus blanc s'arrête près de la poste.
Leurs grands bus blancs s'arrêtent près de la poste.
Au passé composé:
Leur grand bus blanc s'est arrêté (a) (s') (arrêté) près de la poste.
Leurs grands bus blancs près de la poste se sont (ont) (s') arrêté. (près de la poste)
No change for the nominal group Subject.
Arrêter is a transitive verb :
L'homme arrête le bus.
In the past, we have : L'homme a arrêté le bus. The auxiliary avoir show that the CO (مفعول به) is concerned.
If we want to say the man stop himself :
L'homme s'arrête.
In fact, we have the form V of the arabic verb : تَفَعَّل. So the french se is equivalent to the arabic ت.
In the past, we have : L'homme s'est arrêté. Here, the auxiliary direct the action toward the agent found in se, reflexive for l'homme. It's a statement of the doer, a description.
We'll see this topic later إن شاء الله.
Exercice
Learn the formation of the present participle and the past participle. Both derivation of the verb.
Then, change the verb to their participle (participe présent for the verb au présent, and participe passé for the verb au passé)
Pay attention : le passé composé have an auxiliary (which take conjugation) and a fixed past participle. To change the passé composé to a participle, we need to change the auxiliary to its present participle, and then follow the past particple of the verb :
Train
a. Le train bleu...
b. Le petit train...
c. Leur train...
d. Le train en France...
Leur petit train bleu en France... (rouler)
Leur petit train bleu en France roule.
Leurs petits trains bleus en France roulent.
>>> roule/roulent > roulant
Leur petit train bleu en France a roulé.
Leurs petits trains bleus en France ont roulé.
>>> a roulé/ont roulé > ayant roulé

Hope you enjoy صرف and grammar. This help you to learn any language easely.
The main goal of this forum it's to learn arabic and french, and then, compare both.
This is about the arabic verb, morphology and semantic. We have the group of verbs under سمِع group. See كسرة. Then, in the مضارع, we have فتحة on ع radical.Hadeel a écrit:a question : what do you mean of (bab i-a ) ? I don't know what does it exactly mean !!
Il est tombé / Il tombe = bab i-a in arabic verb.
Tombé work as a description for the doer, le Sujet.
This is not only conjugation, but also meaning of the verb. The كسرة means the action act on oneself, while with فتحة the action denote an event.
This way, in french, to express an action dwelling oneself we need the verb être, example with يَجْلِسُ = il est assis = it is a statment of the doer of this particular action, action on oneself.
So كسرة in arabic verb denote a description of a statment dwelling the agent of the verb. In french, as well english, we render it with the verb être (to be).
See here for arabic abwab of verbs : page 17.
You did good for the exercise, less 1/3 of it.
The exercise was about the participle, not conjugation with pronoun, example مَفْعُول is not a verb, but a participle.
So, the exercise is about le participe présent and le participe passé.
You know now how to find them, example : fonctionner (infinitive) / fonctionnant (part. présent -فَعِيل-) / fonctionné (part. passé -مَفْعُول-).
In the exercise, I want to introduce you to the french حال. You see, it's not really about verb and conjugation, but a word (or group of words) denoting an action occuring while another one.
Exemple :
Une phrase complète (complet sentence) :
Mon nouvel ordinateur noir sur la table fonctionne.
We have a nominal group as subjet, and an intransitive verb. (No need مفعول here.)
Phrase incomplète :
Mon nouvel ordinateur noir sur la table fonctionnant...
Here, we have not a complet sentence, cause the participle is a description (but an action) for the noun ordinateur. So you may put the non ending "..." at the end of this nominal group augmented by its participle.
In the second part, we have une phrase complète au passé :
Mon nouvel ordinateur noir sur la table a fonctionné.
First, see we yet have le participe passé of the verb fonctionner, i.e fonctionné. But to pass toward a participe of a fonctionné (which is avoir fonctionné), we change the auxiliary : avoir fonctionné > ayant fonctionné.
Learn the participe présent et passé des auxiliaires et verbes* être et avoir :
Être > étant (part. pré.) / été (part. passé)
Avoir > ayant (part. pré.) / eu (part. passé)
Both are auxiliary for conjugation, but also verb with this meaning : être (to exist) and avoir (to possess).
With all these infos, can you correct your previous answers ?
